ICA reports 1,099 Chin deaths after military coup

According to the Institute of Chin Affairs (ICA), which provides assistance and research to Chin refugees, 1,099 Chin and Chin people were killed by the military council from February 2021 to May 31, 2025. The deaths included 10 deaths from military council shootings during protests, 328 deaths from airstrikes, 11 deaths from being used as human shields, 24 deaths from lack of medicine, 63 deaths from rape and murder by the military council, 202 deaths from unprovoked shootings of civilians, 361 members of the resistance, 17 religious leaders, and 83 deaths from landmines.

In Chin State in 2021, From February to May 31, 2025, 83 people were killed and more than 135 injured due to landmines, according to the Institute of Chin Affairs (ICA), which is conducting research and assistance to Chin displaced persons.

In addition, various organizations should now do more to clear landmines, educate people about landmines, and designate no-go areas to protect their livelihoods.

Out of 20 towns in Chin State, 15 are under the control of local resistance forces, but the Institute of Chin Affairs (ICA) said that people are unable to return to their areas due to air and mine risks.
