May 14.
Since May 12, the Tedim Township Immigration Department has resumed the process of applying for National Identity Card/citizenship verification cards (NIC Card), and hundreds of people have been lining up to apply for registration, according to residents of Tedim Township.
“The revolutionary groups burned down the township’s Immigration office in October 2022. Then, the PDF-Zoland forces arrested the district Immigration chief on April 14 last year and detained him for a long time, making it difficult to register. On May 27 last year, fighting broke out in Tedim town. After that, registration was not done properly. Although other offices were open, the Immigration office could not be reopened properly. I was able to apply for registration again starting yesterday,” said a Tedim town resident.
It was reported that registration applications were no longer available in Tedim town since mid-April 2024, but it has been more than a year since then. The people of Tedim township have heard that they can apply for registration at the state Immigration office in Hakha, but they are having difficulty applying due to various current circumstances. Residents of Tedim Township said that young people have been facing difficulties due to the long period of time when they have not been able to apply for registration.
“Young people come to travel for various reasons, but without a registration, they cannot do anything. Since they can only travel by plane, they cannot fly without a registration. They cannot make mobile payments. They face many difficulties. I am very happy that they have been able to register again. The queue was long on the first day. The next days, there may be more people,” said a local youth who registered himself.
“The application is at a house below the Tedim Township Police Station. Applications will be accepted from there. The signature will be done from Kalay,” said a young rural resident who went to the Immigration office in Tedim Township to register.
“Tomorrow, I will go to Tedim Township to register. I am worried that for some reason, I will not be allowed to apply for registration, or the office in Immigration will be closed again. If I get registered, I have many plans. I am worried that I will miss them,” said a young man from Tedim Township.
