The offensive was launched because the area between Kalay and Ganggaw in Magway Region, located in the foothills of the Chin Mountains, is a strategic and politically important area, CNF/CNA and CDF – KKG spokesperson Salai Htet Ni said at a joint press conference held by CNF/CNA and CDF – KKG today, April 21.
The Kalay-Ganggaw route in southern Kalay is a region dominated by the Pyu Saw Htet, which is home to the military council and the military council forces, and is an important strategic route for the free movement of goods, said Salai Htet Ni, spokesperson for CNF/CNA.
“This is the first military operation in the southern part of Kalay, between Magway Region, Gangaung and Sagaing Region, which is on a very important strategic route. It is a very important place in terms of trade and commerce. It is a place dominated by the military council and the Pyu Saw Htee that the military council produces. As we all know, based on evidence, it is the place where our revolutionary comrades burned and killed with their bare hands last year, burned the lives and property of the people and lived in fear every day, and for the safety of the lives and property of the people in that area, who are living in war-torn areas and living in fear every day, and for the safety of the trade and commerce on that route. In addition, the political situation in that area is a strong place for the military council to hold elections in December. That is why we are conducting military operations in that area,” he said.
The CDF-KKG Major Operation began in 2024 to attack the military council camps between Kalay and Gangaw, and the offensive began in February 2025. The military council camps between Kalay and Gangaw, such as Kamparni Camp, Myintaw, Aung Tharyar (East, West), and the villages of Kyantha, which are dominated by the Burmese army, were successfully attacked and captured within 2 months. The entire CDF-KKG Major Operation was also commanded by the Chin National Army (CNA).
The military council camps between Kalay and Gangaw were captured in the past 2 months by the CDF-KKG, along with allied forces such as CNA, CDF – Hakha, CDF – Thantlang, CDF CDM – Siyin, ABSDF, Yao Region Liberation Army, CDF – Senthang, and Naga Nyinaung.
