On the night of January 16th, in Khampat town of Tamu District, Sagaing Division, an aerial bombardment by the military council resulted in the deaths of two children, one priest, and six civilians according to a local resident.
A resident said, “2 children, 1 priest, a total of six people died, including civilians. There are other injured people,” he said.
Khampat town is located on the road between Kalay town and Tamu town on the India-Myanmar border, where most of the Chin people live. The town of Khampat, which has a population of about 5,000, was captured by the People Defense Force (PDF) on November 7, 2023.
After the PDF regained control, the military council bombarded those who had fled the war and were returning to their homes. Residents said that the military council bombarded Khampat due to the news that the National Union Government (NUG) was to open an office.
