In light of the city-occupation battle news, about half of Tedim Town’s people in Chin State have evacuated their homes, however some continue to travel the town to retrieve necessary things.
Tedim resident said “Almost everyone has fled along the main road of Tedim Town, Kam Hau Road. There is no one in the neighborhoods near the police station and military camp in the town. Some are leaving and some people who are returning to their homes to retrieve their belongings”.
Some who return to the city come back to take care of their homes and move things. The elderly and children are the first to flee away from the town.
A resident of Tedim said, “They fled to Kalay town and their villages. Some fled to the Indian side of the border, but government schools are opening regularly”.
Currently, there is a dispute on social media between the Chinland Council (CC) and the Chin Brotherhood (CB) regarding the military occupation of Tedim Town.
On January 14th, PDA-Tedim issued a statement to the people to prepare in time as they are about to occupy their town.
Zomi Federation Union (ZFU)/ People Defense Force (PDF) – Zoland also issued a statement that they will work together with ICNCC/CB to fight against the entry ban in Tedim Town.
On January 17, Tedim Township’s elected parliamentarians issued a statement about Tedim.
In the statement, “ICNCC and CB are preparing to take over Tedim Township, their constituencies. The Chinland Council factions, including the CNF – led PDA, are taking the first hand politically and conducting military activities”.
2020 Tedim Township’s elected parliamentarians want the Chinland Council troops led by Chin National Font (CNF) / Chin National Army (CNA) to withdraw their military activities in Tedim Township as soon as possible according to their statement.
Tedim Town is located in the northern part of Chin State and located on the India-Myanmar trade road, the city has a population of over 150,00.
