UNHCR urges Myanmar refugees in New Delhi to issue refugee cards soon

April 16.

The Chin Refugee Committee – New Delhi (CRC) in New Delhi, India, led by the chairman of the Chin Refugee Committee – New Delhi (CRC), said on April 15 that the chairmen of various communities in New Delhi, during a meeting with officials of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR – Protection Unit), demanded that Myanmar refugees in New Delhi be issued refugee cards as soon as possible, the CRC said.

Currently, 90 percent of Myanmar refugees in New Delhi are temporary card holders, and they are in dire need of security, health and protection, the CRC said.

The UNHCR has made the request to recognize asylum seekers who face security threats after some churches were searched under the recently approved law for foreigners and migrants in India and there were reports that temporary card holders would be deported.

In addition, it has requested that those with health problems, long-term residents and those with difficulties in settling in a third country be transferred.

UNHCR – Protection Unit officials have reiterated that they will continue to present their requests to the relevant authorities and that an Open House meeting will be held with the High Commissioner for Refugees and other officials in May, the CRC said.

The CRC will monitor whether UNHCR has implemented its requests and, if there are no significant improvements, the CRC will continue to work through other means to meet its needs.
