A child was shot and injured in a shootout in Khaikam Town

May 17.

At around 6 pm on May 16, a local defense force fired at the Khaikam Town Police Station in Tedim Township, resulting in a shootout. Maung Man Suan Mung, aged 15, was shot and injured at his home and is currently receiving treatment at the Kalay Public Hospital, according to local residents.

“The youths fired at the Khaikam Police Station from two directions. The police station also fired back. It was not a situation where both sides would be harmed. However, two bullets hit the child in the thigh, who was calm at home,” said a Khaingam resident who was aware of the incident.

The army on duty at the checkpoint had blocked the passage of the victim since the evening checkpoints were closed, so they were taken to the Kalay Public Hospital on May 17th to have the bullets removed surgically and continue receiving medical treatment, the locals said.

“The officers at the Khaikam Police Station have denied that the type of bullet they used is possible after examining the wound. They said they will confirm it by examining the bullet fragments found during the surgery. The hospital has reportedly kept the bullet fragments. So far, there is no confirmation as to who fired the bullets,” the Khaikam resident continued.

The locals also said that they could not confirm which group fired the bullets on May 16th.
