Since last March, about 12 villages in the Tatchaung and London groups of Paletwa Township, Chin State, have been experiencing malaria. The locals say that the lack of medicine, no one to treat it, and financial difficulties have led to the number of malaria patients dying.
A Paletwa resident said, “Malaria has been prevalent in Paletwa Township for a long time. It started last March. A teacher around 35 years old died. We cannot treat malaria alone, so we are currently facing an emergency. There is not enough medicine. Those suffering from malaria also do not have enough medicine, cannot afford it, and there are no people who provide medical treatment there, so the locals are in urgent need.”
A primary school teacher from Thaekone Village, Paletwa Township, died of malaria on April 30, leaving behind four children.
A Paletwa resident said, “We are currently suffering from malaria. We do not have telephone or internet access in these areas. We have to walk for five days to get internet access. As of the latest information, five people are receiving treatment, one of whom is in a critical condition and one has died. We are not sure how the rest of the residents are doing because we have not been able to collect information yet.”
