The Zomi National Party (ZNP), led by U Thang Sian Khai, has submitted an application to register as a political party, according to reports from military-controlled media. The application was submitted to the Union Election Commission (UEC) on July 3.

According to the reports, the Zomi National Party applied in accordance with Article 7 of the Political Parties Registration Law, which requires registration within 30 days of receiving party formation approval. The party received its formation approval on June 24, 2025.

Previously, on April 30, 2025, the Zomi National Party had submitted an application to the UEC seeking permission to form a political party.

U Thang Sian Khai, who leads the ZNP, is a well-known singer and actor within the Zomi-Chin community, according to Chin World Media.

As of today, a total of 27 groups have applied for party formation approval from the Union Election Commission. Among them, 19 have already been granted permission to form political parties. Out of 18 parties that have submitted applications for official registration, 14 have been approved, while the remaining are still under review by the UEC.

The military regime is reportedly preparing to hold a multi-party general election over a one-month period in December 2025 (during the third and fourth weeks), extending into early January 2026 (first and second weeks). In Chin State, the election is expected to see competition among the registered Khumi National Party, and applicant parties including the New Chinland Congress Party and the Zomi National Party.
