In Tedim Township, as of the third week of June, 71 basic education schools have been able to reopen, with a total of 10,345 students attending. A local resident from Tedim said that the reopening of these schools is due to the strong demand and requests from parents.
“At present, the main reason schools are able to reopen is because of the parents. Without their support, especially regarding security concerns, it would not be possible to reopen schools. In areas where parents or villagers deem it unsafe to open schools, teachers are assigned to schools that can be opened. So, it’s really because of the parents’ wishes and demands that schools are able to reopen,” said a resident from Tedim.
Although there have been reports of threats to headmasters and some teachers, all schools in Tedim town itself are currently open, and students are attending regularly, according to a local source who spoke to Chin World Media.
There are a total of 151 basic education schools in Tedim Township. During the 2023–2024 academic year, 10,932 students from the township were able to attend school. However, in the 2024–2025 academic year, only around 2,000 students were able to attend classes, as only three basic education schools were able to reopen.
