Almost every house in 65 villages within the Paletwa Council area of Paletwa Township, Chin State, where malaria deaths occurred last month, said Daw Ni Ni Oo, head of the Paletwa Council Health Department.
There are 65 villages within the Paletwa Council area with a population of over 6,000.
Daw Ni Ni Oo, head of the Paletwa Council Health Department, said, “Currently, malaria is rampant. It is in almost every village, almost every household. It is a malaria area, and it is even worse. Last month, a child under the age of 5 died of malaria. At that time, there were still few malaria workers. Now, many malaria workers have been produced, so it will be easy in the future. There is also enough medicine, because CHO provides timely support.”
Chin Health Organization (CHO) and Paletwa Council Health Department are jointly providing vaccinations in villages within the Paletwa Council area, blood tests for those with malaria, and medical treatment.
Daw Ni Ni Oo, head of the Paletwa Council Health Department, said, “We visit about 4 villages per month in the Paletwa Council area as mobile health workers, and we provide two hundred fixed health workers. In addition, we provide services in thirty-five villages as malaria workers.”
A 35-year-old school teacher and a 5-year-old girl from Hmong Tanon Village, Lam Myo River, Dai Area No. 2, Paletwa Township, died of malaria in April and May 30.
