Malaysian authorities arrested 597 undocumented foreigners in Sunway Mantri Kok, Selangor, Malaysia on May 22, the Malaysian Immigration Department said in a statement today.
The undocumented foreigners included 226 Myanmar nationals, 201 Indonesians, 71 Bangladeshis, 46 Pakistanis, 44 Nepalis, 8 Indians and 1 Thai.
A Chin man in Malaysia told Chin World Media, “More than 100 of the arrested Myanmar nationals are believed to be Zomi. If those arrested have filed a UN application, I think they will be released if the UN office or relevant committee helps them. I don’t know if those who have no UN application or no evidence will be arrested or immediately deported to Myanmar.”
Malaysian authorities are also planning to start deporting foreigners living in Malaysia through legal channels from May 19, instead of jailing them.
