The Kale-Tedim highway was closed due to the military advances of the military into Chin State. Heavy rains in recent days have damaged the village roads used as roads, and basic necessities have become scarce in Tedim, a resident of Tedim said.
“The village road that passes through Ping Pi village is used as a road. It has been raining a lot these days. It is known that cars have to sleep on the road for one to five nights. That was in the past few days. Now, there is a landslide between Tui sot village and Val Vung intersection, and no cars can go,” a resident said about the current traffic situation in Tedim.
The landslide on the main road has left more than 50 vehicles heading to Kalay City waiting in line for the road to reopen, and a JCB excavator that was clearing the land has become stuck in the mud, according to travelers. The mud on the road has made it difficult to travel by motorbike.
“Most of the vehicles currently traveling are passenger cars. Freight vehicles cannot travel due to road and weather conditions. Bread, eggs, rice, etc. are almost unavailable in the city. If vehicles cannot come in for a day or two, we may face a shortage of medicines,” a middle-aged man from Tedim told Chin World Media.
On the morning of May 19, due to the advance of approximately 800 military council troops into Chin Mountain, all vehicles going up the mountain were blocked at the Khaikam checkpoint, and the CDF-CDM-Siyin temporarily closed all ups and downs on the Kalay-Taingin road, so people traveling between Tedim and Kalay had to use dirt roads connecting villages to avoid these areas.
