Draft Forest Policy for Mindat Township Open for Public Consultation

June 27

The Public Administration Body (PAB) of Mindat Township, located in southern Chin State and free from military control, has announced that it is currently drafting a new forest policy for the township. The body is inviting public input to help finalize the policy.

According to a statement released by the Mindat Township PAB on June 26, residents of Mindat are encouraged to submit feedback and suggestions on the draft policy to ensure it aligns with community needs and environmental goals.

The draft was presented during the township’s public administrative meeting held on June 13. During this meeting, a representative from the Forest Department, along with members of the Mindat PAB, military unit leaders, departmental heads, and township administrators, reviewed and discussed the policy in detail, making collaborative revisions and provisional approvals.

The Forest Department has planned to present the draft policy at the town and village levels through a series of community discussions. These sessions aim to collect public opinions and integrate them into the policy before final approval at an upcoming township administration meeting.

Residents of Mindat can access the draft and provide their suggestions either by visiting the Mindat PAB office or submitting feedback via the PAB’s official social media page.

Mindat Township has been under the control of Chin resistance forces, including the Chin Defense Force-Mindat (CDF-Mindat) and allied groups under the Chin Brotherhood (CB), since they successfully seized control from the military council on December 21, 2024.
