Hakha City’s Commodity Prices Rise Within Days Due to Transportation Difficulties

May 13.

Due to transportation difficulties and tolls, food and other commodity prices have risen within days in Hakha, the capital of Chin State, making it difficult for the lower classes to earn a living, according to Hakha residents.

A Hakha resident said, “The prices of basic food items are also increasing day by day. An egg costs 700 kyats, a pound of fish costs 30,000 kyats, and a chicken costs 30,000 kyats. Even charcoal is now 35,000 kyats. It is not easy for the lower classes to buy it. The main reason for the price hike is the tolls.”

In addition to transportation and transportation costs, the prices of goods in Hakha are also increasing day by day because people have to pay a lot of money at the gates.

There are also around 4,000 people who have fled to Hakha from other parts of the country due to the fighting in Chin State.

Chin State, which has 9 townships, currently has only 2 towns under control of the military council: Hakha and Tedim.
