At around 8 am on May 26, Christian evangelical preacher Evan Bawi Tlen Fai from Si San Village in Kalay Township was seriously injured after stepping on a landmine while walking between Sakan Village and the industrial zone, and lost one of his legs. He is receiving treatment at the Kalay Public Hospital and needs help, according to a close relative.
“The teacher went to Zatwal village in Waibul, Falam Township to gather the members of the Tahan group for a crusade. When he reached the industrial zone near Sakan village, he was going to help a motorcycle that had a broken wheel. He stepped on a mine parked on the side of the road and severed his right ankle. He was taken to the Kalay Public Hospital and underwent surgery at around 2 pm, and due to the severity of the injury, he had to be amputated from below the knee. Now he is eating a little less. We are monitoring the situation,” a close relative said.
Teacher Evan Bawi Tlen Fai is 36 years old and his wife is also 6 months pregnant.
“He will need a lot of treatment and a prosthetic leg when he recovers. The woman is due to give birth in the next three to four months. It is a huge crisis for them and their family. I would like to ask those who want to support him to contact me through my KBZ pay (09400308957),” Stephen Tha Nei Fai, a caregiver for the victim, told Chin World Media.
