The Arakan Army (AA) has arrested 63 Chin youths who were working abroad to support their families and minors who were studying abroad, and sent them for military training, the Chin Political Steering Committee (CPSC) (Rakhine State) announced on May 28 that it has been informed by their families that the AA has arrested and sent them for military training.
The Arakan National League/Arakanese Army (ULA/AA) has issued a statement demanding their release. The CPSC said that the announcement was made on March 18, but it has not yet been officially made public.
The ULA/AA statement is relevant to all ethnic groups in the Rakhine region, so it is considered that prior consultations should be held with the local political forces to recognize and value the indigenous Chin ethnic groups. The CPSC also stated that mutual appreciation and recognition are very important in building the country’s national identity.
On May 22, 2025, the Arakan National League/Arakanese Army issued a statement that included the prohibitions of the National Defense Emergency Provision. The CPSC said that the prohibitions were state-centric, but that the CPSC also found that the people would face a crisis and that they were far from human rights standards.
Today, the ULA/AA’s military, The political success is due to the support and cooperation of the Rakhine people. Therefore, the Chin Political Steering Committee (CPSC) believes that the restrictions need to be reconsidered, focusing on the interests of the people.
The Arakan Army (ULA/AA) announced on May 22 that men and women of military service age (18 to 25 years for women and 18 to 45 years for men) in Rakhine State are prohibited from leaving Rakhine State.
