On May 12, Tg Neng Khen Thang, a villager from Nan Han Nwe village in Kalay Township, went into the forest near the Khuakhung stream to cut bamboo and stepped on a landmine, seriously injured and having his leg amputated and is undergoing surgery at the Kalay Hospital, a local resident said.

“He is single, a bachelor. He is a manual laborer. He makes a living by cutting wood and fishing rods in the forest and selling them. He has no relatives to take care of him. He is breathing on oxygen in the hospital. He needs four bottles of blood urgently, so we had to ask for help from churches and associations in Kalay. We have also received donations for his medical expenses,” said the victim’s pastor.

The victim, who was hit by a mine, said that the SKS soldiers stationed near Nan Han Nwe village were only allowed to go into the forest on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but because he went there on Monday, May 12, he experienced delays in the rescue operation with the military and suffered from excessive bleeding. He had to receive four bottles of blood transfusions. The pastor further learned that a widow of a man who died in a landmine accident is caring for the patient because she has no relatives.

Tg Neng Khen Thang, 50, was injured in a landmine explosion and his right leg was amputated. He is currently receiving treatment at the Kalay Public Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment for a serious leg injury that requires a steel implant.
