In the morning of May 1, two local men stepped on a landmine in Nga Lai Village, Matupi Township, Chin State, and one of them lost his right leg and the other sustained minor injuries, according to local residents.
A local said, “We heard that the incident happened while they were going to clean the village. One of them lost his leg and the other sustained minor injuries.”
The two local men from Nga Lai Village who stepped on the landmine were returning from Mizoram to clean their house in Matupi Township when they stepped on the landmine and are currently receiving medical treatment.
In the more than three years since the 2021 military coup, 37 people have died and 68 others have been injured in Chin State due to landmines, according to the Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO).
