April 24.
The powerful earthquake that hit Sagaing, Myanmar on March 28 caused a fire to burn more than 60,000 answer sheets for the 2025 University Entrance Exam at Mandalay University. The military council announced on April 22 that students from Kachin, Sagaing, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw will have to retake the university entrance exam on June 16. The university entrance exam, which has been criticized by the public, will also include students from the G-12 level in Kalay Township, Sagaing Region.
A resident of Kalay Township said, “We know that G-12 students will have to retake the university entrance exam for the 2024-2025 academic year. Some private high schools will start teaching their students remotely starting next month.”
The military council has also announced that the university entrance exam will be held again from June 16 to 21, along with a schedule.
The decision of the Ministry of Education under the military council has been criticized as being too one-sided for students, and there have been protests from students, parents, and teachers.
The powerful earthquake that struck on March 28 caused injuries and deaths in some parts of Sagaing Region, Mandalay, and Nay Pyi Taw, and many houses were damaged, but there were no injuries or damage to houses in Kalay, located at the foot of the Chin Mountains.
