GKYA calls for prompt and independent investigation into 2 AA soldiers who attempted to rape and kill a local Chin woman in Paletwa Township

Global Khumi Youth Association (GKYA) today issued a statement calling for the ULA/AA to conduct a prompt and independent investigation into the 2 Arakan Army (AA) soldiers who attempted to rape and drown a local Khmer Chin woman, a mother of a child, from Sein Sin Village, Paletwa Township, Chin State on April 5.

ULA/AA calls for a prompt and independent investigation into this case; to provide the victims with the necessary mental/physical health care, safety, legal protection and other necessary assistance; to identify the perpetrators and prosecute them transparently in accordance with domestic and international legal procedures; and to ensure that the ULA/AA, in the future, especially women, GKYA calls on all parties to stop all acts of violence against children and the freedom, justice and security of the people and all civil society organizations and non-governmental organizations working for human rights and women’s rights in Myanmar to join hands in providing justice to the victim.

A mother from Sein Sin village in Paletwa Township was raped and drowned by two Arakan Army (AA) soldiers, and the two perpetrators have been arrested since the day of the crime, AA spokesman U Khaing Thu Kha told Rakhine media outlet Narinjara.

On April 5, a mother from Sein Sin village was raped and drowned by two AA soldiers in a stream when the victim’s mother-in-law screamed for help, saving her life.
