Five Chin youths from Paletwa who were returning to Paletwa Township, Chin State from Yangon were arrested at a military council checkpoint in Kalewa Town, Sagaing Region on April 22, according to sources close to the incident.
A Paletwa resident with knowledge of the situation said, “Among those arrested is my friend, he is around 24 years old and he is ill in Yangon, so he returned from Yangon to receive traditional medicine. In the past, when the political situation was good, we could return to Paletwa via Yangon-Sittaung, but now, due to the poor road conditions, we have to return to Paletwa via Kalewa and Hakha.”
The arrested are Nay Lin Kyaw from Mee Letwa Aok Village, Paletwa Township, Aung Syan Lin from Wakkuwa Village, Hlaing Win from Mee Za Village, They are (Ba Cho) from Mee Za village and (Nai San Oo) from Wakkuwa village.
Of the five Chin youths from Paletwa who were arrested at the military council checkpoint in Kalaywa town, Nay Lin Kyaw and Aung Syan Lin were released on April 29, while the other three are still being held.
