The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has been slow to recognize the refugee status of those who fled after the military coup in Myanmar, so they should meet with the UNHCR to expedite the refugee screening process.
The Foreigners Registration Office (FRRO) in India has stopped issuing visas to refugees, causing overstayers to pay fines and those leaving for third countries to be held accountable, and the inability to obtain a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC), among other issues, they said.
MP Richard Vanlalhmangaiha also said that he would meet with UNHCR and relevant Indian authorities to discuss the plight of the Myanmar refugees and requested the Chin Refugee Committee (CRC) to help control the flow of drugs from Myanmar into Mizoram.
